Hartland to become LFC Michigan's Newest Site

Pontiac, MI, April 24, 2021

Dear Hartland United FC Families,

Hello! Please allow me to introduce myself—my name is Andy Wagstaff, owner of Liverpool FC IA Michigan.

I have been a part of the Southeast Michigan soccer community for more than 30 years, since I came to Michigan from England to play for Oakland University. Since that time, I have coached youth, college, and semi-professional teams (including back-to-back USYS Girls National Champions and most recently the USL League 2 National Champion Flint City Bucks in 2019). It was in 1992 that I joined the staff of Bloomfield Hills Force Football Club and I eventually became owner. Then five years ago, through a partnership with Liverpool Football Club of the English Premier League, I founded the International Academy affiliate here in Michigan. My wife Lindsey (who teaches Spanish at Hartland High School) and I live in Hartland and we have two young children, Charlotte and Drew.

Over these last five years, LFC Michigan has been very successful in helping young soccer players develop on and off the pitch through an authentic academy experience. I am pleased that we will be working with Hartland United FC to share this unique experience with Hartland and surrounding communities as our newest site, Liverpool FC Hartland.

Following are the latest developments as we work with HUFC to integrate programming for Select players and also invite new players to join our Hartland site at tryouts June 12-13.

  • Jamie Black from our LFC Ann Arbor site will be Director of Coaching.
  • Catherine O’Neill, also from our Ann Arbor site, will be your site Administrator.
  • Coaching assignments and tryout schedules will be announced in the coming weeks.
  • All LFC Hartland staff will be trained with the LFC Curriculum and Coaches Education prior to tryouts in June.
  • We are looking to start an annual community fundraising event that will help provide financial aid to qualified players (more details to come).

Please save the date for an Open House/Free Soccer Clinic on Friday, May 14 at Heritage Park. From 6:00-7:30pm, interested U7-U18 players will participate in a free soccer clinic. A brief presentation and Q&A will begin in the Pavilion at 6:30pm for parents/families. The presentation will explain more about our club and the relationship with HUFC, answer questions and introduce staff members. Register to attend the event on our website here. (You will be asked to create a SportsEngine account, if you do not have one already.)

Please use our website at www.LFCInternationalAcademyMI.com under the “Hartland” tab, as information becomes available, you will find Tryouts, Coaching staff, Registrations, and more as we get set for the inaugural season in Hartland.

On behalf of our coaching staff and families, we welcome you into The World’s Greatest Football Family. I hope to meet many of you at the Open House, as well as in the coming weeks on the soccer fields or around town.

Cheers,
Andy Wagstaff

Pontiac, MI, March 5, 2021 — Liverpool Football Club International Academy Michigan (LFC Michigan) and Hartland United FC (HUFC) are pleased to announce that HUFC’s Select Travel teams will join LFC Michigan and operate as the “Hartland” site as of the 2021/22 soccer season tryouts in June.

LFC Michigan will bring to Hartland its proven individual player development model and world-class Liverpool FC curriculum, as well as access to all the resources and support that come with being part of an LFC International Academy. “We strongly believe in developing players and teaching them to play the right way, so this relationship with LFC Michigan will provide additional training for our coaching staff and expand the playing opportunities for our travel players,” said Steve DePestel, HUFC Board President.

Players will have the opportunity to guest play with teams from the five other LFC Michigan sites in Southeast Michigan and Windsor, Ontario, gaining valuable playing experience and feedback on their development.

“The Hartland/Howell area has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and Hartland United FC has done a great job building its travel program and coaching staff,” said Andy Wagstaff, LFC Michigan Owner and President. “The values of LFC and those of the families in this area are well-suited for each other, and it is an ideal time to introduce our authentic LFC coaching program and help build a player pathway from recreational to all levels of travel soccer right here in the community.”

There are currently 10 teams ages U9-U15 (boys and girls) and 150 players that will join LFC Michigan as the Hartland site. The site will continue to operate out of its current offices, and train and play at their existing fields and is prepared to add players and teams at tryouts in June.

Jamie Black will join the Hartland site as Director of Coaching. Black brings his valuable experience as Assistant Director of Coaching at the club’s Ann Arbor site for the past three years. His primary responsibility at Hartland site will be imparting the club’s coaching philosophy and values known as “The Liverpool Way.” The HUFC Travel Select coaching staff will transition over to LFC Michigan.

LFC Michigan is a premier player development academy with nearly 130 teams ages U7-U19 and 1,500 travel players. It is based out of its Central site in Pontiac (UWM Sports Complex, formerly known as Ultimate Soccer Arenas) and Bloomfield Hills. It has additional sites in Ann Arbor, Clarkston/North Oakland, Ferndale, Windsor (ON), and now Hartland. The Hartland site will serve Hartland and its surrounding communities in Livingston and western Oakland Counties.
